With hashport, users are enabled to port digital assets seamlessly across DLT networks. Connecting to Ethereum-compatible networks doesn’t have to be difficult — follow our guide to get started.

In order to use hashport with new EVM-based networks such as Polygon, you must first configure them to your wallet of choice. EVM stands for Ethereum Virtual Machine, and EVM-based networks simply include any networks that have been built on the Ethereum blockchain. In this case, we are using MetaMask; one of the most popular browser-based wallets available today and will be configuring it to interact with the polygon network and tokens.

While this guide specifically walks through how to carry out these actions using MetaMask, many of the same steps should be possible (potentially with slight variations! Please DYOR) with other wallets as well. For a list of additional wallets that are capable of holding Polygon tokens please refer here.

Configuring your wallet for these new networks will also allow you to properly see the representative tokens you have just created via hashport if you have not done so already such as HBAR[0x].

If you have not yet installed the MetaMask extension already you can add it from the Chrome Web Store. This extension is compatible with both Chrome as well as Brave browsers.

Once downloading MetaMask and adding it to your browser, create a wallet or import an existing one. Set your password and be sure to store your recovery phrase in a secure manner. The actionable steps from here are italicised.

Once MetaMask is installed and initialised, in a new tab, navigate to Chainlist.org

Once on the site use the search field to enter the name of the network you are looking to add and then connect your wallet to the specific network of choice:

Next from your MetaMask, select your account of choice to connect to:

Click connect:

Click add to MetaMask:

Next, on a MetaMask popup that should appear, click Approve:

If prompted at this point, click switch network:

If you already have an existing token balance within the account of the new network you just added, the native network token for that specific network should become visible at this point, provided you still have the new network selected at the top of MetaMask:

You have now successfully added a new network RPC configuration to your MetaMask!

Moving forward you will be able to see and interact with the token balances you have on any particular EVM-compatible network that you add to your MetaMask in this way.

If you do not see the balance for a representative token that you have created (or any other token that you should have within your wallet for that particular network), first make sure that it has been properly added to your wallet.

Open your MetaMask, scroll to the bottom of your asset list, and click on import tokens:

Select custom token:

Enter the Token Contract Address for the token you are looking to see your balance for in MetaMask. This address can be found in a variety of different places such as native block explorers of the network you are adding (Etherscan for Ethereum), Polygonscan for Polygon, etc.). You can also find a given token’s address by visiting sites such as CoinGecko or CoinMarketCap provided it is already listed there.

Once you have entered this address into the field, the remainder of the values should pre populate in the fields below. At this point you can click Add Custom Token:

You should now see the balance of your representative token in the assets section of MetaMask! Head to hashport to start porting assets across networks today!
